Two Police Officers Die During Eid Exodus Security Duties
Two police officers were reported to have died while carrying out security duties for the 2026 Eid al-Fitr exodus traffic in different regions. Both are suspected to have suffered from exhaustion and health issues after intensive fieldwork. The first incident occurred in Pekalongan Regency, Central Java. Pekalongan Police Resort member Bripka Septian Eko Nugroho died after performing traffic regulation duties as part of Operation Ketupat Candi 2026. Pekalongan Police Chief AKBP Rahmad Yusuf explained that Bripka Septian had just completed traffic regulation duties at Alun-Alun Kajen on Sunday night (22/3). Afterwards, he took a brief rest nearby before suddenly collapsing. His colleagues immediately rushed the victim to Kajen Regional General Hospital for medical treatment. Upon arrival at the emergency department (ED), the medical team promptly conducted an examination, including an electrocardiogram (ECG) and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). “The examination results showed a heart rhythm disorder. Despite maximum treatment efforts, the deceased was pronounced dead,” Rahmad stated in a written release, quoted from Antara. He added that the cause of death was related to a cardiovascular system disorder or heart disease. According to him, the deceased’s physical condition was not fit at the time, yet he still carried out his duties. Bripka Septian was known as a sociable, easy-going person with high loyalty. He left behind a wife named Dewi and two young sons still in primary school. A similar incident also occurred in the jurisdiction of Metro Jaya Regional Police. A member of the Traffic Directorate, Brigadir Fajar Permana, died while on duty securing the exodus traffic. Head of Public Relations for Metro Jaya Regional Police Kombes Pol Budi Hermanto said the deceased was suspected to have suffered from exhaustion after performing marathon duties at several community service points. “Metro Jaya Regional Police deeply mourns the loss of this young, highly dedicated Bhayangkara. The deceased breathed his last after fulfilling the state’s mandate,” Budi stated on Monday (23/3). He explained that before dying, Brigadir Fajar experienced physical exhaustion accompanied by respiratory distress after standing guard for an extended period during the exodus season. Metro Jaya Regional Police has assured that it will provide a final tribute and fulfil all the deceased’s rights, including compensation for the bereaved family.
