Two 'Pocong' Street Performers Detained During Nighttime Raid
The Head of the Jakarta Social Services, Iqbal Aqbarudin, stated that both individuals were intercepted by the Rapid Response Team (TRC) P3S of the East Jakarta Social Services on Tuesday, 2 June 2026, at 18:18 WIB. The performers, identified by the initials AF (21) and RR (16), were apprehended in the Pondok Kopi area.
Following data collection, the two ‘pocong’ performers were transferred to the PSBI Bangun Daya 2 Social Institution in Cipayung, East Jakarta, for further handling. According to reports, the individuals were caught by officers conducting routine patrols in the East Jakarta region.
Kurniawan, the Commander of the East Jakarta P3S Unit, explained that the patrol encountered the two beggars dressed as ‘pocong’ ghosts. He noted that this phenomenon has recently gone viral and has been causing public unrest. Consequently, the individuals were taken into custody.
He added that the intervention was necessary because the use of ghost costumes to attract attention in public spaces has become a source of concern for residents. The enforcement action is part of an ongoing effort to maintain public order and ensure community safety. This trend of beggars using ‘pocong’ costumes has been increasing lately, leveraging social media trends to solicit money from passers-by.
