Boroujerdi stated that the situation in the Strait of Hormuz is not yet fully normal as it remains in a sensitive wartime condition. Consequently, every ship passing through must follow strict procedures set by Iranian authorities.

“The Strait of Hormuz is not in a normal state at present. It must go through several protocols established by the security side,” said Boroujerdi at Paramadina University, East Jakarta, on Saturday (11/4/2026).

He explained that ships intending to pass must undergo a coordination and negotiation process with Iran’s security guards. These protocols are implemented to ensure safety amid the conflict situation.

“In times like this, there are certainly several protocols that must be followed, including negotiating with Iran’s security side,” he said.

Previously, two tankers owned by PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) were known to still be in the Persian Gulf area and unable to cross the Strait of Hormuz due to the unconducive security conditions.

The Indonesian government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs along with Pertamina, is continuously conducting diplomatic communications with the Iranian side to ensure the ships can pass safely.

Boroujerdi emphasised that Iran, in principle, does not close access, but all ships must comply with the applicable rules in that area. “Everyone must go through the established protocols,” he concluded.
