REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Corporate Secretary of PT Pertamina (Persero) Arya Dwi Paramita stated that the company is still working to secure the release of two tanker ships detained in the Persian Gulf due to the war between the United States (US) and Iran, which has led to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

“The situation remains the same. We are continuously coordinating and consulting with relevant stakeholders, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” said Arya when met on the sidelines of the Sustainability Champions event held in Jakarta on Thursday (16/4/2026).

He expressed thanks to the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Tehran (KBRI Tehran), and other parties involved in efforts to free the two Pertamina tankers, namely Pertamina Pride and Gamsunoro.

Currently, Pertamina is closely monitoring developments in the highly dynamic situation in the Strait of Hormuz.

“Once again, thank you for the assistance provided by all parties in this matter,” Arya said.

On that occasion, Pertamina’s Vice President of Corporate Communication, Muhammad Baron, stated that Pertamina is maintaining communication with the crew on the ships to ensure their safety.

In addition to communicating with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Baron said that Pertamina, through Pertamina International Shipping, is in contact with relevant parties such as insurers and others.

“So that, if the atmosphere or situation allows, we hope the ships can soon pass through the Strait of Hormuz,” Baron said.

Two Pertamina tankers have been reported detained in waters near the Strait of Hormuz since early March 2026 due to the closure of that route.

The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) confirmed that the Iranian government has responded positively to the Indonesian government’s request for the ships to pass safely.

Follow-up actions have been taken by relevant parties, particularly Indonesia’s representatives in Tehran, in technical and operational aspects, but it is not yet certain when the tankers can exit the Strait of Hormuz.

According to the Vessel Finder ship tracking website as of Saturday afternoon, the two tankers operating for Pertamina are still in the Persian Gulf area.

The Pertamina Pride was detected off the coast of Al Jubail, Saudi Arabia, while the Gamsunoro was recorded off the coast of Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Iran’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Mohammad Boroujerdi, stated that the ships detained in the Strait of Hormuz still need to go through a negotiation stage with Iranian authorities, given that tensions in the region have not yet subsided.
