Two tourists visiting Curug Cileat waterfall in Subang Regency, West Java, were found dead after being buried by a landslide on Friday, 15 May 2026. The victims were discovered one day after the landslide during search efforts conducted on Saturday morning, 16 May 2026.

The Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Subang Regency, Udin Jazudin, stated that the victims were carried away by the land and buried to a depth of approximately two meters. According to him, the bodies of the victims have been handed over to their families. “For now, we are temporarily closing the tourist attraction; no visitors are allowed,” said Udin when contacted on Sunday, 17 May 2026.

Udin stated that the Curug Cileat tourist location has been well-known for a long time due to its beauty. However, this tourist spot, which maintains a natural atmosphere, is also prone to landslides. At the time of the incident, according to Udin, heavy rain occurred in the tourist area during the day. “They (the victims) and three other friends who survived were on their way back from Curug Cileat,” he said.

According to the Head of the Bandung Search and Rescue Agency (SAR), Ade Dian Permana, they received a report of a landslide incident in the Curug Cileat tourist area, Mayang Village, Cisalak District, Subang Regency, West Java, on Friday evening, 15 May 2026. Based on the information received by SAR, the landslide was triggered by high rainfall intensity in the surrounding area.

“The cliff is suspected of having buried two tourists from Karawang who were taking photos in the area around the waterfall,” said Ade in a statement on Saturday, 16 May 2026.

After receiving the report from the Subang Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency, the SAR team was deployed to the location to search for victims suspected of being buried by the landslide. According to witnesses, at the time of the incident, three of the victim’s friends heard a rumbling sound and immediately saved themselves.

“However, two other victims are suspected of not having had time to escape and were buried by the landslide material,” said Ade. The victims who were found dead were Alda Apriliani, 22 years old, from Cikampek, and Winda Limbong, 20 years old, from Karawang, West Java.

The search operation involving a joint SAR team, according to Ade, began on Saturday morning. A thermal drone was also deployed to speed up the victim search process. The first victim, Winda, was found at 11:23 AM, while Alda was found not far from her friend’s position.

“After both victims were successfully found, the joint SAR team immediately carried out the evacuation process to their respective homes,” said Ade.

The Curug Cileat tourist location, according to the Subang Regency government website, is located in Cibogo Village, Mayang Village, Cisalak District. The height of the waterfall is over 100 meters and is located on high cliffs at the foot of Mount Canggah. Access to this location cannot yet be reached by vehicles, so visitors must walk several kilometers.
