Two officers shot in drug raid

JAKARTA: Two police officers from the drug squad were shot during a drug raid conducted jointly with the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) in Jakarta late on Monday.

The alleged shooter was arrested.

National Police spokesman Brig. Gen. Soenarko said that the two officers, named Second Brig. Iik Yusanto and Second Brig. Suratman, were currently receiving medical treatment at the Soekanto Police Hospital in Kramatjati, East Jakarta.

"I still haven't received any reports on their latest condition," Soenarko said on Tuesday.

A man named Hendra, allegedly a drug dealer, was arrested immediately after the shooting incident at the Puri Kemayoran Apartment complex, and the 9-millimeter firearm allegedly used to shoot the officers was seized.

Hendra is currently being questioned at BNN headquarters. -- JP
