Two new envoys submit credentials

JAKARTA (JP): President B.J. Habibie received the credentials of South Korea's new ambassador Hong Jung-pyo and Sri Lanka's new ambassador Tisse Dias Bandaranayke in separate ceremonies at the Merdeka Palace yesterday.

Prior to being posted in Jakarta, Hong (left) worked as deputy foreign minister for economic affairs.

He joined the foreign ministry in 1968 after completing his studies at Seoul National University's school of economics in the same year.

He replaces Hyung Ki Min, who was posted here in April 1995.

Bandaranayke, 66, is a former Sri Lankan envoy to the United Nations and supreme court judge.

He replaces Ratne Deshapriya Senanayake, who was posted here in April 1995. (prb)
