Two Muslim Female Figures in the US Face Deportation Threats from Trump: What Happened?
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Former US President Donald Trump demanded the immediate deportation of two Muslim female members of Congress, Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar, on Wednesday. This demand came after the two politicians interrupted Trump during his State of the Union address.
This strong stance was conveyed by Trump through a lengthy post on his social media platform, Truth Social. He condemned the behavior of the two legislators, which he considered to have tarnished the image of the country.
“When people can behave like that, and knowing that they are very bad, Crooked and Corrupt Politicians who are terrible for our Country, we should send them back from whence they came, ASAP!” Trump wrote in his post, as quoted by Middle East Monitor, Thursday (February 26, 2026).
Although Trump demanded deportation, legally, neither woman is eligible to be sent back to their countries of origin. Omar was born in Somalia, but she has been a US citizen for almost three decades, while Tlaib is an American citizen of Palestinian descent who was born in Detroit, Michigan, making her a lifelong US citizen.
The tension began on Tuesday night when Trump delivered a speech before a joint session of Congress. Tlaib and Omar repeatedly shouted at Trump as a form of protest against the deaths of American citizens at the hands of immigration officials under his administration.
“You have killed Americans!” shouted the two members of parliament just before they decided to leave the House of Representatives chamber.
In response to Trump’s threat, Rashida Tlaib stated on the social media platform X that the president’s actions were a form of inability to accept criticism from Muslim women. She even included a hashtag in Arabic that means “crazy king.”
“Can’t stand seeing two Muslim women answer and correct him so now he’s throwing a tantrum. #PresidentMajnoon,” Tlaib wrote.
Not only did he attack the members of Congress, Trump also extended his attacks to two-time Academy Award-winning actor, Robert De Niro. The veteran actor is known as a vocal critic of Trump’s policies.
“Another sick and crazy person, who I believe has a very low IQ, who has absolutely no idea what he is doing or saying. When I saw him crying last night, like a little baby, I realized that he may be even more sick than Crazy Rosie O’Donnell, who is currently in Ireland trying to figure out how to get back to our beautiful United States. The only difference between De Niro and Rosie is that he may be slightly more intelligent than her, which isn’t saying much,” Trump wrote.
This attack is believed to be in response to De Niro’s statement in the MS Now podcast published on Monday. In that interview, De Niro called the president a real threat to the stability of the country.
“He is an enemy of this country, let’s not kid ourselves. He will never leave. We have to make him leave. You see, he’s joking now about nationalizing elections - he’s not joking. We’ve had enough. And everyone is worried about him, but he really means it,” said De Niro.
