Two muggers shot to death

Police shot to muggers to death in two separate places
yesterday and Sunday.

Irwan Hidayat, 18, a resident of Jl. Muhamad, Jagakarsa, South
Jakarta, was shot in his chest and waist while resisting arrest
in Kebayoran Baru area, South Jakarta, yesterday at dawn. He was
trying to flee the South Jakarta policemen who caught him red-
handed mugging an office worker at the bus shelter.

According to the police, Irwan, who was a regular criminal
around the Blok M market, had managed to avoid arrest up to that
point.

Another suspected mugger was shot to death in Cengkareng on
Sunday night while trying to extort money from a passerby. Ikpoy,
alias Saleh, 26, resident of Kampung Utan, East Cengkareng, was
shot after he ignored two warning shots by the police. (lem)
