Two motorcyclists crash in Bekasi Timur while avoiding potholes, one unconscious

BEKASI — Two men riding a motorcycle together had an accident on New H Nonon Sonthanie Road, Duren Jaya Village, East Bekasi District, Bekasi City, on Monday evening (25 May 2026).

Based on local residents’ accounts, both victims reportedly fell while trying to avoid a pothole on the road.

On Tuesday (26 May 2026), the accident site still showed signs of the crash. The pothole suspected to have caused the accident was marked with white paint and covered with soil. The road conditions in the area appeared uneven with several long potholes at various points.

The route is known to be busy with vehicles, especially during rush hours after work and school.

Local resident Anis (34) said accidents caused by potholes in the area happen frequently.

‘There are so many potholes here. People often fall and have accidents,’ Anis said.

‘If it’s a motorcycle, it’s definitely unbalanced when hitting a pothole, so it falls,’ he added.

Anis added that government repairs so far have mostly been temporary patch jobs.

‘Repairs only happen when there’s a fatal victim. Sometimes someone has to get hurt first before it gets fixed,’ he said.

He said he learned of Monday’s accident after hearing a loud crash from the road direction.

As a resident living near the area, Anis said he often hears vehicles falling or accidents on that road.
