Jakarta (ANTARA) - Police officers apprehended a suspect in the theft of two motorcycles following an incident on Jalan dr. Susilo Raya, Grogol Petamburan, West Jakarta.

“Our operations team successfully secured two motorcycles and one suspect with the initials S, a 31-year-old male whose role was as the getaway rider,” said the Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit (Kanit Reskrim) of Grogol Petamburan Police, AKP Alexander Tengbunan, speaking to reporters in Jakarta on Wednesday.

In the theft, which occurred on Thursday (12 February), suspect S was responsible for transporting the stolen motorcycles to the Banten area. The motorcycles were stolen by his accomplice, who remains at large and has been placed on the wanted persons list.

“We managed to apprehend the suspect (S) in the Banten area, specifically in Cilegon,” Alex said.

According to Alex, the victim’s motorcycle had been parked in front of the Post Office on Jalan dr. Susilo Raya.

The suspect identified as H (the perpetrator) then surveilled the motorcycle. After spotting an opportunity and seeing no witnesses in the vicinity, the perpetrator broke into the motorcycle using a T-shaped key.

“He damaged the victim’s motorcycle, then immediately rode it away to Banten,” Alex explained.

After stealing the victim’s motorcycle, suspect H promptly instructed suspect S to transport the stolen goods to Banten.

Meanwhile, the victim, upon realising the vehicle had gone missing, immediately reported the incident to police.

After receiving the report, officers launched an investigation and arrested the suspect in Banten on Friday (13 February).

Upon examination, the suspect, who works as a labourer, admitted to involvement in the theft due to economic pressures. “The suspect’s motive was economic — he was in desperate need of money,” Alex said.

For his actions, the suspect has been charged under Article 477 of the Criminal Code for aggravated theft.
