Two Motorcycle Thieves in Cikarang Arrested by Police; Suspects Shot in the Leg for Carrying Firearms

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Two motorcycle thieves in Cikarang Pusat, Bekasi Regency, identified as JF and AS, were arrested by police at Pasar Rebo in East Jakarta on Tuesday evening, nearly a month after the incident. The Director of General Criminal Investigation for the Metro Jaya Regional Police (Ditreskrimum), Kombes Pol Iman Imanuddin, said the suspects had brandished firearms at the time of arrest and were shot in the leg as a precaution in the interests of public safety and the safety of officers on the ground. ‘The suspects were armed, so, in consideration of public safety and the safety of our officers in the field, we carried out a decisive and measured action,’ Iman told reporters at the Metro Jaya Police headquarters on Tuesday. They are currently detained at the Metro Jaya Police detention facility for further examination. They face charges under Article 477 of the Criminal Code for theft, Article 479 for theft with violence, and Article 306 relating to the use of firearms. The maximum penalty they face is up to 15 years’ imprisonment. Earlier, CCTV footage of the theft circulated on social media via the Instagram account @cikarang.people on Tuesday, 21 April 2026. In the footage, the suspects riding a motorbike stop in front of a seemingly quiet house. One suspect is then seen peering into the house from the veranda before approaching the parked motorbike.
