Two Motorcycle Thieves Arrested in North Jakarta After Being Dragged by Residents

A group of motorcycle thieves was caught by residents while operating in Penjaringan District, North Jakarta. Residents briefly dragged one of the suspects along the road. The incident occurred on Jalan Kapuk Muara Raya, Kapuk Muara Urban Village, Penjaringan, North Jakarta, on Saturday afternoon (6/6). The arrest of the motor vehicle theft suspects drew the attention of local residents. In a circulating video, residents can be seen running while dragging the suspected thief along the road. Police officers and sub-district officials arrived at the location to apprehend the suspects for legal processing. “Swift synergy between Kapuk Muara Urban Village Bhabinkamtibmas Aiptu Hartono and the Penjaringan Metro Police Resmob Unit successfully secured and evacuated two suspected motorcycle thieves,” said Penjaringan Police Chief AKBP Agta Bhuwana Putra in a statement on Tuesday (9/6/2026). The two arrested suspects have the initials S and E. They were temporarily detained by residents in the RT 07 RW 04 area of Kapuk Muara Urban Village, Penjaringan District, North Jakarta. “Upon receiving information from the public, officers immediately went to the location and evacuated the two suspects to prevent vigilante actions and to maintain a safe and conducive public order situation,” he said. The two suspects were then secured at the RW 04 post before being taken to the Penjaringan Metro Police for legal processing and further investigation. “We thank the public for playing an active role in helping to maintain environmental security and for promptly reporting the incident to the police. Let us together create a safe and orderly environment by not taking the law into our own hands and by entrusting the handling of every criminal act to law enforcement officials,” he stated. Police urged the public to contact the Police 110 Call Centre, which is active 24 hours a day and toll-free, if they encounter disturbances to public order or require police assistance.
