Two Motorcycle Thieves Arrested in Bogor After Being Apprehended by Residents

Police have detained two men, identified by the initials Y and G, suspected of stealing a motorcycle in Ciangsana Village, Gunung Putri District, Bogor, West Java. Both were caught by residents after allegedly taking the motorcycle from a mosque car park.

Gunung Putri Police Chief Commissioner Hillal Adi Himawan said the victim, identified as B, was inside the mosque when he was informed by the mosque caretaker that his motorcycle was apparently about to be stolen. The incident occurred on Friday evening, 28 August.

Upon receiving the information, the victim immediately went to the car park to secure his motorcycle. When he arrived, he found that his motorcycle had been moved from its original position towards the mosque gate, a distance of approximately seven metres. The engine was still running. At the same time, local residents had surrounded the two suspects, who were then apprehended and briefly subjected to mob justice.

Officers from Gunung Putri Police, who received the report, promptly arrived at the scene and secured the two suspects along with a number of items of evidence for further investigation. The evidence seized included the motorcycle with its registration documents, two ignition keys, a T-shaped key handle, two Y-shaped key bits, a modified magnetic ignition opener, and a mobile phone.

The alleged theft was carried out by damaging the victim’s motorcycle ignition using a tool believed to be a fake T-shaped key while the vehicle was parked in the mosque courtyard. The suspects and the evidence were then taken to the police station for further legal processing, and police subsequently named them as suspects.

The case is being handled as suspected aggravated theft under Article 477 of the Criminal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of seven years’ imprisonment.
