Two more Indonesian soldiers killed, UN condemns attack on UNIFIL
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The United Nations (UN) has announced that two members of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) from Indonesia were killed in an explosion that struck the peacekeeping force’s logistics convoy in Lebanon on Monday (30/3).
UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix, in a statement at UN Headquarters in New York as quoted in Jakarta on Tuesday, also strongly condemned the incident.
“Two Indonesian peacekeepers lost their lives in an explosion that struck the UNIFIL logistics convoy, destroying their vehicle near Bani Hayyan in the eastern sector. Two other peacekeepers were injured, one of them seriously. We strongly condemn these unacceptable incidents, and peacekeepers must not be targeted,” Lacroix said.
He explained that the incident occurred a day after an Indonesian peacekeeper was killed when a projectile struck and exploded at the Ett Taibe mission base. Another member of the force was seriously injured and taken to a hospital in Beirut.
UNIFIL is conducting an investigation to determine the circumstances of this tragic development, he said.
Lacroix affirmed that UN peacekeepers remain in the field and carry out the tasks mandated by the Security Council amid highly dangerous conditions.
The French diplomat also called for all actions endangering peacekeepers to be stopped and for all parties to comply with their obligations at all times to ensure the safety and security of peacekeepers.
Sergeant Major Farizal Rhomadhon was confirmed killed in the incident, while three other personnel—Sergeant Major Rico Pramudia, Sergeant Major Bayu Prakoso, and Sergeant Major Arif Kurniawan—were injured.
Head of the Armed Forces Information Centre (Kapuspen) at TNI Headquarters, Major General TNI Aulia Dwi Nasrullah, confirmed that the three injured personnel have been evacuated to medical facilities, including Sergeant Major Rico, who sustained severe injuries and was transferred to St. George Hospital in Beirut for intensive care.
According to the UN Peacekeeping website, as of January 2026, there are 756 members from Indonesia participating in UNIFIL in Lebanon.
