Two Molotov Cocktail Throwers Targeting Wrong Victim in Koja Arrested

Police have arrested two suspects involved in a Molotov cocktail attack that went astray, causing a mother riding with her child in Koja, North Jakarta, to fall. Police stated there are four suspected perpetrators in the incident. “That’s correct, two have been arrested,” said North Jakarta Metro Police Deputy Chief of Criminal Investigation, Commissioner Bima Sakti, when contacted on Monday (29/6/2026). He did not yet explain the chronology of the arrests. Bima only mentioned that one of the arrested suspects is a man with the initials M, who is the main perpetrator of the Molotov cocktail throwing. “The two were arrested in Cipinang and Cilincing. The incident occurred on 22 June, and they were arrested on 26 June,” he said.

Police revealed the suspected motive behind the Molotov cocktail attack that mistakenly hit a mother carrying her child in Koja, North Jakarta. Police stated the perpetrator intended to target the family of his ex-wife’s new partner. Based on the investigation, the Molotov thrower has the initial M. The perpetrator M is known to have an ex-wife with the initial R. Perpetrator M reportedly could not accept that R had a new partner with the initial U. In fact, according to police, perpetrator M also already has a new partner. Perpetrator M was said to be targeting U’s family, one of whom is K, who is U’s uncle. It was this man K who was the target of the Molotov cocktail throwing at the scene. “It’s just that perpetrator M was jealous of R and U. The jealousy was ridiculous, it went astray to U’s family. In the video, you can see a person sitting holding a mobile phone, that is U’s uncle, with the initial K,” said Koja Police Chief Commissioner Andry Suharto when contacted on Tuesday (23/6). Perpetrator M allegedly intended to throw the Molotov cocktail at K, who was playing on his mobile phone in front of a house on Jalan Mandiri II, Koja, on Monday (22/6) at around 09.00 WIB. K, who in the recording appeared to be wearing a blue shirt, was seen dodging when the Molotov cocktail exploded near him. The Molotov cocktail then exploded as a mother riding a motorcycle with her child passed by. The mother then swerved to avoid the fire and crashed into a wall, causing her to fall.
