Two Ministers Visit Kendari’s People’s School to Ensure Poverty Alleviation Programme is On Track
Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Djamari Chaniago and Home Affairs Minister Muhammad Tito Karnavian conducted a working visit to Kendari City, Southeast Sulawesi, on Saturday, 30 May 2026. The visit aimed to ensure the implementation of the People’s School and Red White Cooperative programmes align with government targets to improve community welfare.
The visit began at SRMP 25 Kendari in the Sentra Meohai area. The programme is a crucial government strategy to expand education access for children from low-income families and accelerate poverty eradication in the region.
Chaniago affirmed the central government’s commitment to ensuring all national priority programmes run effectively and deliver tangible benefits.
“The People’s School exists to provide equal opportunities for all Indonesian children to receive proper education. The government will continue to ensure the programme runs smoothly with adequate facilities,” Chaniago said while inspecting student classrooms.
Home Affairs Minister Muhammad Tito Karnavian added that the success of the People’s School programme heavily depends on collaboration between central and local governments. He stated that education is the key to breaking the cycle of systemic poverty.
“We aim to ensure the programme operates optimally and effectively reaches those in need,” Karnavian stressed.
As tangible support, Chaniago distributed cooling units, dispensers, and sports equipment including badminton and futsal gear. Simultaneously, Southeast Sulawesi Governor Andi Sumangerukka handed out food packages to students’ parents as a gesture of social concern.
“We are committed to continuing synergy with the central government. The People’s School represents a significant hope for children in Sulawesi Tenggara to access better education,” said Governor Andi Sumangerukka.
After inspecting the education sector, the delegation moved to Baruga Village to visit the Red White Cooperative. Here, various productive business development programmes designed to enhance community economic independence were outlined.
Chaniago deemed the cooperative a vital instrument for driving grassroots economic growth. The government pledged continued support for developing similar cooperatives nationwide to create broader business opportunities for communities.
The working visit underscores the government’s approach to integrating education and economic sectors as key pillars for improving living standards in Southeast Sulawesi.
