A two-metre-long python weighing about five kilograms preyed on a resident’s chickens in Dusun Baluk 1, Desa Baluk, Kecamatan Negara, Kabupaten Jembrana, before being evacuated by the Jembrana Fire and Rescue Service (Damkar). The incident began on Wednesday morning (20 May 2026) around 09:00 WITA. The owner of the plantation and chicken coop, I Made Yudana (50), initially went to check his poultry in the coop beside his house. However, Yudana was surprised to find the coop in ruins. ‘The witness then tried to search for the chickens around the area. Not far from there, he saw a python with a swollen belly,’ said Kepala Satpol PP Jembrana, I Ketut Eko Susilo Artha Permana, when contacted by detikBali on Wednesday. The swelling of the snake’s abdomen led Yudana to believe that his birds had been swallowed by the reptile. Fearing that the snake could attack or threaten residents, Yudana immediately reported the incident to Mako Damkar Jembrana. ‘Made Yudana saw the snake with its abdomen enlarged; he suspected that his chickens had been eaten by the snake. Because he was worried about further danger, he contacted Mako Damkar,’ he added. Upon receiving the report, Regu I Damkar Jembrana, which was on standby, moved to the scene. The officers, equipped with protective gear and snake tongs, carried out the evacuation. ‘The evacuation of the python lasted for about 30 minutes. It has been secured and handed over to the relevant authorities,’ Eko concluded.
