Two men robbed and shot

JAKARTA: A group of robbers on motorcycles shot two men who were traveling in a Kijang van along Jl. H.R. Rasuna Said, before making off with Rp 235 million.

Lilik Priyo Utama, who witnessed the robbery on Wednesday, said the crooks were on two motorcycles and carrying four firearms.

Suyanto, the van's driver, suffered one shot to his right thigh while Abadi was hit in the waist, left thigh, knee and ankle. Both underwent medical treatment at MMC hospital in Kuningan, South Jakarta.

Lilik, who happened to pass by when the robbery took place, ran toward the venue after hearing a series of gunshots. He helped the victims fight back at the robbers but he got shot on his left calf and suffered a bullet wound to his right thumb.

"Upon hearing the gunfire, I came to the venue and helped the two men fight the bandits," Lilik said at Cipto Mangunkusomo Hospital, where he was receiving medical treatment.

Setiabudi subprecinct First Insp. Winardy said the criminals had snatched Rp 235 million in cash from the victims and ran toward the Menteng area.--JP
