Two men make off with Rp 130m

JAKARTA (JP): A man stabbed a university student and stole
his bag with Rp 130 million (US$56,400) in front of a money
changer on Jl. Irian, Central Jakarta yesterday afternoon.

After stabbing Mario HF, 22, with a sickle, the unidentified
man snatched the bag and escaped with an accomplice, who was
waiting nearby on a motorcycle, a reliable police source told The
Jakarta Post last night.

The newly-appointed Central Jakarta police chief, Lt. Col. SY
Wenas, could not be reached for confirmation.

According to the source, Mario was on his way with his mother,
Marther T. Karundeng, 55, to change the cash at the PT Sinar Mas
money changer. They went there by Kijang minivan at noon.

When Mario got out of his car, the robber attacked him and
stabbed him three times before making off with the bag.

Mario is being treated at the Cipto Mangunkusumo General
Hospital for his injuries on his shoulder, arm and back. (bsr)
