Two Men in South Sulawesi Duel with Sharp Weapons over Paddy Field Land Dispute
Two men with the initials WL and AM in Sidenreng Rappang Regency (Sidrap), South Sulawesi (Sulsel), were involved in a duel using sharp weapons due to a dispute over paddy field land. Both men sustained injuries and are now in police custody.
“It is true that a fight occurred between two local residents,” said the Head of Public Relations at Sidrap Police Resort, Ipda Andi Zaenal Salman, to reporters, as reported by detikSulsel on Saturday (25/4/2026).
The fight involving sharp weapons took place in Dusun Palla’e, Bila Village, Dua Pitue Subdistrict, Sidrap Regency, on Thursday (23/4) around 3:30 PM WITA. It started when WL installed a bamboo pole on the paddy field claimed to belong to AM.
“Initially, the man WL installed a bamboo pole on the paddy field claimed to belong to the man AM. Feeling aggrieved, AM then approached WL, which triggered a fight using bamboo and sharp weapons,” he said.
As a result of the incident, both suffered injuries. WL sustained a laceration on his right arm and little finger, as well as an abrasion on his knee, while AM suffered a stab wound on his back and left abdomen, a laceration on his thumb and ring finger, as well as scratches and bruises on his face.
The evidence seized includes one machete allegedly used by AM and bamboo used by both perpetrators. Meanwhile, one badik (traditional dagger) allegedly used by WL is still being searched for.
“The motive was a dispute over paddy field land,” he emphasised.
