Two Men in Karawang Face 20 Years' Imprisonment for Storing 43 Grams of Methamphetamine
The Karawang Resort Police (Polres) have apprehended two men from Jayakerta District, Karawang Regency, West Java, for storing dozens of grams of methamphetamine-type narcotics. As a result of their actions, the two perpetrators now face a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison. The arrests of the two suspects were carried out at two different locations. This firm action stemmed from a public report that was subsequently developed by the police.
At the first location, police managed to secure a man with the initials MY, 27, a resident of Ciptamarga Village. From MY, officers seized a number of items of evidence. Based on the results of MY’s interrogation, police obtained the identity of the supplier. Without wasting time, officers immediately moved to the second location in Pulau Harapan Hamlet, RT 005/002, Kampung Sawah Village, Jayakerta District. At around 07:30 WIB, police succeeded in nabbing the second suspect with the initials BC, 40. From BC, officers secured a much larger amount of evidence.
Karawang Police Head of Public Relations, Ipda Cep Wildan, confirmed that the total methamphetamine evidence seized from the two suspects reached 43.17 grams. Based on this quantity, both perpetrators are confirmed to be involved in an illicit drug trafficking network. “Suspect MY’s modus operandi was distributing meth in small packets. Meanwhile, BC acted as the supplier. The evidence clearly shows this was not for personal consumption, but for distribution,” said Cep Wildan on Friday (19/6).
For their actions, both suspects are charged with multiple articles. The perpetrators are charged under the Primary Article 114 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 132 paragraph (1) of Republic of Indonesia Law No. 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics, in conjunction with Law No. 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code, in conjunction with Law No. 1 of 2026 concerning Criminal Adjustments. Meanwhile, for the Subsidiary charge, they are charged under Article 609 paragraph (2) letter a of Law No. 1 of 2023. With these legal charges, both suspects face a minimum sentence of 6 years and a maximum of 20 years of imprisonment. Currently, MY and BC along with all evidence have been secured at the Karawang Police Headquarters for further investigation. Investigators have also examined the complainant and witnesses, and are coordinating with the Prosecutor’s Office to complete the case file.
