Two Men in Bogor Beaten by Residents After Being Caught Stealing Motorcycle
A motorcycle theft occurred in a housing estate in the Leuwiliang sub-district of Bogor, West Java. The perpetrators were apprehended by local residents.
Leuwiliang Police Chief Kompol Maryanto said the incident took place on Monday evening (23 February). The suspects stole a motorcycle belonging to a resident who was visiting a neighbour.
“That’s correct, the incident involved taking a motorcycle that was parked whilst its owner was visiting,” Maryanto told reporters on Tuesday (24 February 2026).
The victim heard the sound of his motorcycle being stolen. He immediately shouted at the suspects and gave chase until they were caught.
“As soon as he heard the sound of the motorcycle, the owner came out straight away. He shouted, gave chase, and then caught them,” he explained.
The suspects were subjected to mob justice by residents after being apprehended. Maryanto said that both individuals are now in an improved condition but are still receiving medical treatment.
“Their condition has now improved, but they are still being treated in hospital,” he said.
At present, the suspects are unable to be interviewed by investigators. The police are waiting for the suspects’ condition to improve before bringing them to the police station.
“Not yet — they cannot be interviewed,” he concluded.
