Two Men Arrested in Denpasar for Stealing Woman's Vespa by Posing as Debt Collectors

The Resmob team of the Bali Police’s Criminal Investigation Directorate has arrested two motorcycle theft suspects who posed as debt collectors. The two perpetrators were apprehended after being hunted by police for more than a week.

Bali Police Head of Public Relations, Commissioner Ariasandy, said the suspects were arrested on Saturday, 8 August 2026 at around 03.30 WITA. The theft itself occurred on Sunday, 29 June 2026 at 16.30 WITA in the parking area of a boarding house on Jl. Pemogan Mutiara Indah II, Raya Pemogan, South Denpasar District, Denpasar City.

The case began when the victim, identified by the initials NLSD (19), was about to leave her boarding house. She was suddenly approached by two unknown men claiming to be debt collectors from Indomobil. The perpetrators then demanded the motorcycle the victim was riding, claiming there were outstanding payments, and showed data on a mobile phone.

The victim attempted to contact her older brother, but was prevented by the perpetrators. They said they would visit her brother, who was the registered owner of the motorcycle the victim was riding.

“After that, the perpetrators pulled the victim’s hand and bag, forcibly took the keys and vehicle registration from inside the bag, and then fled with the motorcycle,” Ariasandy said in his statement on Monday (10/8/2026).

Following the incident, the victim and her family checked with the Indomobil office. The finance department stated there was no repossession order for the vehicle.

The victim’s family then reported the incident to the police. The Resmob team conducted an investigation and managed to apprehend one of the suspects, identified by the initials LAN (23), in his boarding house room. From the interrogation, the team obtained information on the whereabouts of the second suspect, identified by the initials FC (23).

Both suspects admitted to taking the victim’s Vespa motorcycle. From the two suspects, the Resmob team also seized evidence including six motorcycles of various brands and mobile phones.

Ariasandy also urged the public to be wary of people claiming to be debt collectors. Vehicle repossession must be accompanied by an official assignment letter, power of attorney, and identification.

“Repossession must not be carried out using violence, threats, or on public roads. If you encounter a similar incident, immediately report it to the nearest police station or call centre 110,” the Head of Public Relations stressed.
