Two lecturers get award
PONTIANAK, West Kalimantan: M. Asrori and Tadjudin Nur, both staff lecturers at Tanjungpura University, recently won an award for their research on education, Antara reported.
One paper was on students who also have to work to earn their livelihood and help their parents. It involved students living in borders and remote areas in the province.
Rector Mahmud Akil said yesterday the award not only boosted the reputation of the only state-run college in the province, but also proved that the public can expect more of it.
The researchers identified in their works a number of obstacles that children in some remote places have to overcome in order to finish even their basic education.
For instance, children often choose to drop out rather than walk long distances to school. (swe)
