Two Kopdes Merah Putih Participants Die During Basic Military Training

The Ministry of Defence has confirmed the deaths of two participants in the Sarjana Penggerak Pembangunan Indonesia (SPPI) programme for the Kopdes Merah Putih and Kampung Nelayan Merah Putih initiatives during basic military training. The confirmation follows the circulation of news on social media on Monday regarding the deaths of participants named Anisa Muyassaroh and Yonanda Muhammad Taufiq.

‘Participant Anisa Muyassaroh, who was undergoing training at the Dodikjur Rindam VI/Mulawarman education unit in Balikpapan, experienced a health issue on 18 June 2026 and received medical treatment at the unit’s health facility before being referred to hospital,’ said Brigadier General TNI Rico Ricardo Sirait, Head of the Defence Information Bureau at the Ministry of Defence Secretariat General, in a press statement in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Rico added that following medical examination, Anisa was pronounced dead due to heat stroke. Meanwhile, Yonanda died while attending training at the Puslatpur Kodiklatad education unit in Baturaja. Rico explained that Yonanda experienced a decline in physical condition on Monday (15/6) and was subsequently referred to hospital. ‘Based on medical information, the individual was pronounced dead due to cardiac arrest,’ he stated.
