Two Kilograms of Methamphetamine Bound for Jakarta Seized at Pekanbaru Airport

A joint team from the Riau Police Narcotics Directorate and Aviation Security at Sultan Syarif Kasim II Airport in Pekanbaru has foiled an attempt to smuggle two kilogrammes of crystal methamphetamine to Jakarta. A courier, identified by the initials AS, was arrested on Monday after an X-ray scan of a suitcase revealed suspicious contents. Upon inspection, officers discovered 14 packages of the drug concealed inside folded jeans within a blue suitcase. The suspect admitted to transporting the narcotics from Bireuen, Aceh, with Jakarta as the intended destination. Police seized the two kilogrammes of methamphetamine, the suitcase, and two mobile phones as evidence. The Riau Police Narcotics Director stated that investigations are ongoing to uncover the wider syndicate behind the operation, trace financial flows, and potentially apply money laundering charges. The suspect remains in custody at Riau Police Headquarters for further legal proceedings.
