Two killed in vat explosion
BONDOWOSO, East Java: At least two people were killed and a
building destroyed when a vat in a soybean curd factory in
Pademangan Kulon village exploded on Saturday.
Antara reported that when it exploded, the vat traveled about
200 meters, breaking through the factory's wall, before it landed
on a railway track and buckled it, disrupting the Bondowoso-
Jember railway service on that day.
Those killed were identified as Fauzi, the owner of the
factory, and foreman Yacob.
Dozens of workers were busy doing their job when the vat
exploded.
Police said that initial investigations showed that the vat
exploded because its valve had been too tight. (pan)
