Two killed in rebels' ambush

ZAMBOANGA, Philippines (AFP): Moro guerrillas waylaid a small
group of Christian landowners in the southern island of Basilan,
leaving two men dead and another injured, police said yesterday.

The group were attacked by Moro Islamic Liberation Front
(MILF) members at a village near Tuburan town as they visited
their farms there on Thursday, the police regional headquarters
here said. The dead men were brothers.

The MILF is a splinter of the Moro National Liberation Front
which is now negotiating with the government for Moslem self-rule
in the south after a failed separatist rebellion in the early
1970s.
