Two killed in plane crash
JAKARTA (JP): An airforce trainee and a restaurant waitress were killed when a training plane crashed yesterday into a restaurant near the Borobudur Temple in Magelang, Central Java.
Second. Lt. Inugroho, a trainee from the Air Force Flying School (Sekbang) in Yogyakarta, died instantly when the plane crashed and caught fire after plunging into the restaurant at about 11 a.m.
Major B. Sasmito, spokesman of the Yogyakarta's Adisucipto Air Base, and Lt. Col. Koesmadi, the Air Base Operation Chief, confirmed the accident to newsmen, but could not explain the cause of the crash. "We have to examine the black box to find out the reason of the accident," Sasmito said.
Yogyakarta-based Bernas daily told The Jakarta Post through telephone last night that the body of Sri Marwati, the 25-year- old restaurant waitress, was sent to a local hospital, while the remains of Inugroho to the Air Force's Harjo Lukito hospital in Yogyakarta.
Sasmito said the trainee was flying a T 34 C Turbo Mentor aircraft alone.
Inugroho reportedly took off at 10.14 a.m. Western Indonesia Time but he had not yet made any contact with the base until 11 a.m. The base then sent another plane to detect the ill-fated plane. (akm)
