Two killed in Jeep accident on Bromo tourist route amid suspected brake failure
PASURUAN – Two people died in a single-vehicle accident involving a jeep on the Bromo tourist route in Wonokitri Village, Tosari District, Pasuruan Regency, on Friday. Pasuruan Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner of Police (AKBP) Harto Agung Cahyono stated that the two deceased were the driver, MS from Malang Regency, and a tourist, YWA. ‘The vehicle is believed to have experienced brake failure while descending a steep road with sharp curves, causing the driver to lose control, hit a cliff and overturn,’ said Agung. The incident occurred on the public road between Penanjakan and Lautan Pasir, specifically at the S-curve in Wonokitri Village, Tosari District, Pasuruan Regency, as the jeep with registration BG 1478 EF was travelling north to south. Agung explained that the driver died at the scene, while tourist YWA succumbed to internal abdominal bleeding during transport to Sukapura Health Centre in Probolinggo Regency. Three other passengers—FR, ZH, and FNN—sustained injuries and received medical treatment. According to the crime scene investigation, police cited faulty brakes combined with the steep, sharp curves as the primary cause of the accident. Additionally, officers suspected the driver was not cautious enough and unable to control the vehicle, leading to the collision.
