Two killed in Cirebon bus crash

INDONESIA: At least two were killed and eleven others were injured when a bus carrying passengers from Jakarta to Semarang, Central Java, drove into a traditional market in Cirebon, West Java on Saturday.

Witnesses said the bus Putri Jaya, which also hit two parked motorcycles, three pedicabs and three carts, failed to stop and crashed into the crowded market in Celancang, Kapetakan district, after developing brake trouble.

Suningsih, 18, a shopper, died instantly while Abdulgani, a pedicab driver, died on his way to hospital. The 11 wounded victims were rushed to Gunung Jati General Hospital.

Angered by the deaths of victims, people in the market threw stones at the bus.

Last week, at least 19 were killed and many others injured when a bus belonging to P.O. Sinar Jaya crashed and caught fire after hitting kerosene drums in Slawi, some 90 kilometers east of Cirebon. --JP
