Two killed in Bromo tourist route accident
Pasuruan, East Java - Two people died in a single-vehicle accident involving a jeep on the Bromo tourist route in Wonokitri Village, Tosari Subdistrict, Pasuruan Regency, on Friday.
Police Chief of Pasuruan, AKBP Harto Agung Cahyono, stated in Pasuruan on Friday that the two fatalities were the vehicle’s driver, MS, a resident of Malang Regency, and tourist YWA.
“The vehicle is believed to have suffered brake failure while navigating a downhill stretch and sharp bend, causing the driver to lose control, hit a cliff, and roll over,” said Agung.
The incident occurred on the Penanjakan-Lautan Pasir public road, specifically at the S-bend in Wonokitri Village, Tosari Subdistrict, Pasuruan Regency, as the jeep with registration number BG 1478 EF travelled north to south.
Agung explained that the driver died at the scene, while tourist YWA succumbed en route to Sukapura Health Centre in Probolinggo Regency due to suspected internal abdominal bleeding.
Three other passengers — FR, ZH, and FNN — were injured and received medical treatment.
Based on the crime scene investigation, police cited faulty brakes combined with the downhill road and sharp bends as the main contributing factors to the accident.
Additionally, officers suspect the driver was not cautious enough and unable to control the vehicle’s speed at the scene, leading to the unavoidable accident.
