Two killed in boat crash

JAMBI, Jambi: Two people were killed and one is missing after two boats collided in the Batanghari River on Tuesday night, authorities said Wednesday.

The KM Apollo and KM Kausar collided at 9:30 p.m., about 23 miles from the port of Jambi, Capt. Sajid of the local military command said.

He said KM Kausar, carrying 34 passengers, sank. The KM Apollo, carrying goods, was impounded. KM Apollo's captain, 35- year-old Darmin, escaped, he added.

Jambi Port administrator Zul Retmika said the collision happened in a narrow, shallow strip in good weather.

The cost of damage is yet to be estimated, Antara reported. (pan)
