Two Killed as Motorcycle Hit by Train at Unguarded Crossing in Serdang Bedagai

A motorcycle was struck by a train at an unguarded level crossing in Dusun I, Pematang Sijonam Village, Perbaungan District, Serdang Bedagai Regency. Two people on the motorcycle were killed.

Serdang Bedagai Police Public Relations Head AKP Bringin Jaya said the accident occurred at an unguarded level crossing on Monday (10/8) at around 3.00 pm Western Indonesia Time.

“It is confirmed that a traffic accident occurred between a train and a motorcycle at an unguarded level crossing. Two people on the motorcycle died at the scene,” Bringin said.

Bringin explained that the accident began when Romaito Rambe was riding a motorcycle with a pillion passenger, Torkis Rambe. Both were travelling from a residential area towards the Trans-Sumatra Highway. Upon reaching the unguarded level crossing, the victims allegedly failed to notice the approaching train.

“The rider is believed to have failed to pay attention to the train approaching from Medan towards Tebing Tinggi or Tanjungbalai,” he said.

At the same time, the Putri Deli U98 train with locomotive number CC 2018904 was passing from Medan towards Tebing Tinggi or Tanjungbalai. The train was driven by engineer Deski Wirya Asta and assistant engineer Dafit Kristanto Rajagukguk. The motorcycle ridden by the victims was then hit by the train.

The two victims were identified as Romaito Rambe (30), a resident of Terang Bulan Village, Aek Natas District, North Labuhanbatu Regency, and Torkis Rambe (27), the motorcycle passenger, also a resident of Terang Bulan Village, Aek Natas District, North Labuhanbatu Regency.
