Lamongan, East Java (ANTARA) - Two jumbo-sized cows owned by farmers from Lamongan Regency, East Java, have been purchased by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto for the Eid al-Adha sacrifice in 1447 Hijriah/2026.

The Head of the Lamongan Regency Livestock and Animal Health Service (Disnakeswan), Sofiah Nur Hayati, stated in Lamongan on Wednesday that both cows originate from farmers in the Kembangbahu and Solokuro sub-districts.

“One cow for the sacrifice in Lamongan Regency and the other for the provincial level,” said Sofiah.

She explained that the first cow is a Simmental breed owned by H. Suwigyo, a farmer from Puter Village, Kembangbahu Sub-district, weighing approximately 1.2 tonnes.

Meanwhile, the second cow is a Peranakan Ongole (PO) breed owned by Udin, a farmer from Bluri Village, Solokuro Sub-district, weighing 1.05 tonnes.

According to Sofiah, both cows have undergone health checks and are deemed suitable as presidential sacrifice animals.

“Our team has conducted a thorough health and condition examination of the livestock,” she said.

In addition to animal health oversight, the Lamongan Disnakeswan is intensifying socialisation efforts for the Eid al-Adha sacrifice implementation, including education on halal and hygienic slaughtering procedures in collaboration with Halal Slaughter Experts (Juleha).

These measures aim to ensure that the slaughtering process meets religious, health, and animal welfare standards.

Sofiah views the selection of Lamongan cows as presidential sacrifice animals as an appreciation of the local livestock quality in the area.

Furthermore, she hopes this will motivate farmers to continue improving livestock care and breeding quality.

“Lamongan has long been one of the main suppliers of cattle in East Java,” she said.

Based on Lamongan Disnakeswan data for 2026, the cattle population in the area reaches 107,470 heads and is considered sufficient to meet community needs.

The Lamongan Regency Government is also strengthening foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) control through vaccination, including the distribution of 14,000 doses of vaccines provided by the East Java Provincial Government at the beginning of 2026, as well as tightening livestock movement monitoring in animal markets.
