Two Jakarta-Jambi Flights Diverted Due to Haze at Sultan Thaha Airport

Haze from forest and land fires (karhutla) blanketed Sultan Thaha Airport in Jambi, causing visibility to drop. Two flights on the Jakarta–Jambi route were diverted as a result of the haze.

EGM of Sultan Thaha Airport Jambi, Ardon Marbun, said the diversion was carried out for flight safety. The two diverted aircraft were Garuda Indonesia GA 128 and Citilink QG 966.

“Visibility dropped to 800 metres at one point. For safety, two flights heading to Jambi were diverted to other airports,” Ardon said on Tuesday (25/8/2026).

Garuda Indonesia GA 128 on the Jakarta–Jambi route, which was scheduled to arrive at 13.40 WIB, was diverted to Hang Nadim Airport in Batam. Meanwhile, Citilink QG 966, with a scheduled arrival of 15.20 WIB, was diverted to Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II Airport in Palembang.

“At the time, Garuda was carrying 119 passengers, while Citilink was carrying 164 passengers,” Ardon said.

According to flight condition reports from Sultan Thaha Airport Jambi, visibility at 14.00 WIB was still around 1,500 metres. Visibility then dropped to 1,000 metres at 14.30 WIB and reached 800 metres at 15.00 WIB.
