Moscow (ANTARA) - Two Iranian diplomats who arrived in the United States to attend the High-Level Week of the UN General Assembly, but did not leave the country after the event concluded, have been asked to leave the US, according to an Axios report on Saturday, citing a US official.

According to the official, US Secretary of Estonia Marco Rubio views the situation seriously. Last week, Rubio reportedly requested that the Iranian delegation leave the US after negotiations reached a deadlock.

The Iranian Permanent Mission to the UN in New York subsequently stated that the Iranian delegation, led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, had left New York according to the schedule previously communicated to the US authorities.
