JAKARTA — The Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) has stated that two of three inmates who escaped from the detention cell of the Pontianak District Prosecutor’s Office (Kejari) in West Kalimantan have been successfully recaptured, whilst one remains at large.

Anang Supriatna, Head of the Attorney General’s Office Legal Information Centre, confirmed the escape incident. “Two have been caught, one is still being searched for,” Anang said when contacted by Kompas.com on Wednesday, 11 March 2026. “Yes, there was an escape incident, and it’s currently at the second stage where the investigator is handing over the case to the prosecutor.”

Anang did not disclose the identities of the two inmates who have been recaptured or the one still being pursued.

It was previously reported that three inmates accused of theft escaped from the Pontianak Prosecutor’s Office detention cell on Tuesday, 10 March 2026 in the afternoon. The three are identified as AP (22), SI (33), and AN (31).

At the time of the incident, they were undergoing the second stage of prosecution, which involves the transfer of the suspect and evidence from police investigators to the public prosecutor.

According to a source identified as Dwi, the inmates are suspected of having escaped because the detention cell door was not locked after they were placed inside the holding area. “Possibly when they were placed in the cell, the cell door was forgotten to be locked again, which gave all three the opportunity to escape,” said Dwi.
