Two injured in student brawl

JAKARTA (JP): A teacher and a student were injured in a fierce brawl involving more than one hundred high school students in Cilandak, South Jakarta, Saturday.

Students from the Cendrawasih and Bhakti Idata private senior high schools, in South Jakarta, clashed at midday after a group of Bhakti Idata students, on a public bus, yelled at Cendrawasih students who were gathering in front of their school, chief of Cilandak Police Subprecinct Maj. Hapsoro Wahyu said.

Hapsoro said the Bhakti Idata students pelted rocks at the Cendrawasih students, who retaliated by stoning their attackers.

Hapsoro said there were no reports of casualties or damage to buses. He also said no one was arrested.

However, eyewitnesses say they saw people being taken to the nearby Setia Mitra Hospital for injuries, and two buses were damaged.

A staff member from the hospital's emergency room told the press two people were treated after the clash.

"One of them, Aberson Muslim, a teacher of Cendrawasih High School suffered a serious head wound," said the staffer who insisted on remaining anonymous.

The staffer also said the hospital had sent Odjie, a Cendrawasih school student, to Fatmawati Hospital, because Setia Mitra hospital could not treat his wounds. (05)
