Two Injured in Random Stabbing Spree in Tangerang
Police have uncovered the case of a man who carried out random stabbings in the Cibodas area of Tangerang City. So far, two people have been recorded as victims of the perpetrator’s brutal attacks.
Tangerang City Metro Police Chief Commissioner Raden Muhammad Jauhari said the stabbings took place on 11 May 2026 and 9 July 2026. The first incident occurred on 11 May 2026 on Jalan Sawo X, Cibodasari Village, Cibodas District, Tangerang City.
“The first victim, named Sunarah, had just finished exercising and was riding a bicycle when a motorcyclist suddenly approached from behind and touched the victim’s back,” said Commissioner Jauhari in a statement on Saturday (11 July 2026).
At first, the victim did not realise he had been stabbed and only felt a stinging sensation. However, upon arriving at his workplace, a colleague discovered a torn wound on the right side of his back, requiring the victim to undergo a medical examination and obtain a forensic report.
The second incident occurred on 9 July 2026 on Jalan Bawang VII, Cibodasari Village. The second victim, Malik Zaidan Setiono, was walking towards a minimarket when he was allegedly attacked from behind by the perpetrator using a motorcycle.
“The victim felt pain on the right side of his waist. Upon examination, it turned out he had a bleeding wound requiring medical treatment with two stitches,” he continued.
Based on the two victims’ reports, police conducted an in-depth investigation until they obtained information about the perpetrator’s identity and whereabouts. The perpetrator, known by the initials KM, was eventually arrested at 11.30 Western Indonesia Time this afternoon in the Bencongan area of Kelapa Dua, Tangerang Regency.
During the arrest, police also secured several pieces of evidence, including a black Honda Beat motorcycle suspected of being used in the attacks, as well as the clothes worn by the perpetrator during the assaults.
Investigators are still probing the perpetrator’s motive, including the possibility of other victims with similar patterns of attack. The police chief stressed that the investigation will continue to be developed to uncover the entire series of incidents allegedly carried out by the perpetrator.
“We are still conducting intensive questioning of the perpetrator and exploring the possibility of other victims. Members of the public who believe they have experienced similar incidents are urged to come forward immediately so the matter can be investigated,” he said.
He also called on the public not to hesitate to report any criminal acts or suspicious activities in their neighbourhood to the nearest police station or the National Police call centre on 110, which is available 24 hours a day. According to him, the active role of the community is essential in maintaining a safe and conducive security situation.
