Two injured in fresh Ambon clash

AMBON, Maluku: At least two men suffered gunshot wounds as
clashes between residents in Benteng Atas subdistrict here
resumed on Wednesday.

The victims, identified as Rudy Lekatom Pessy, 30, and Dani,
20, were shot during an attack on their housing complex launched
by a rival group. Both were taken to Dr. Haulussy General
Hospital.

Marine spokesman Lt. Col. Ibrahim Sadong said later on
Wednesday that his troops encountered four civilians wearing
jeans and white T-shirts who were brandishing AK-47 submachine
guns during the fray.

"We could not capture them as they quickly blended in with the
attacking crowd," Ibrahim said.

He said his soldiers were familiar with the Russian-made
rifles because they were also used by his force.

Ibrahim said his personnel were investigating the illegal arms
