Two Indonesians Injured in Attack on Riyadh
Two Indonesian citizens were among those injured in an attack at Riyadh Airport in Saudi Arabia. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the pair were now in good condition, after receiving medical treatment for their injuries.
Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Yvonne Mewengkang said the ministry was continuing to monitor the security situation in Saudi Arabia, which is currently at war with Yemen’s Ansarallah Houthi group. “Based on coordination with the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, we received information that two Indonesian citizens suffered minor injuries in the attack on 11 October 2026,” Yvonne told Republika in Jakarta on Wednesday (14 October 2026).
“Both Indonesian citizens received medical treatment in Riyadh and were allowed to go home on the same day,” she added.
The Foreign Ministry estimates that around 581,000 Indonesians live in Saudi Arabia, including 37,494 in Riyadh. Yvonne said the Indonesian Embassy in Riyadh had issued an advisory urging all Indonesians to remain vigilant and avoid dangerous situations and locations.
The advisory also asks Indonesians in the country to limit their travel and not to record or take photographs or videos indiscriminately for wider distribution.
Yvonne said the measures were intended to ensure compliance with the rules in force in Saudi Arabia following the recent security crisis. “Indonesians travelling to and from Saudi Arabia are advised to check their flight status with their respective airlines and continue to follow official information from the Saudi authorities and the Indonesian Embassy in Riyadh,” she said.
According to the latest information from the Saudi authorities, King Khalid International Airport remains closed until 17 October 2026. The Indonesian Embassy in Riyadh is continuing to monitor the security situation, including by visiting several hospitals to confirm the whereabouts of Indonesian citizens. It is also keeping track of their condition so that protection can be provided if needed.
Some time ago, Yemen’s Ansarallah Houthi group launched large-scale attacks on several areas in Saudi Arabia. One target was King Khalid Airport in Riyadh, the Saudi kingdom’s main city. Reports said that more than a dozen people were killed and hundreds injured. The casualties included foreign nationals.
On Wednesday, Yemen’s Houthi group said it had targeted Saudi Aramco facilities in Dhahran, King Khalid International Airport and an Aramco oil refinery in Riyadh.
The group said it would continue operations targeting airports and oil facilities in the coming days, amid rising tensions with Saudi Arabia.
