Two Indonesians arrested in Malaysia
MALAYSIA: Two Indonesians were arrested for firearms possession after they tried to sell a loaded pistol to an off-duty police officer in Malaysian territory on Borneo island, a news report said on Wednesday.
The suspects, in their 20s, offered the gun to a group of people for 1,000 ringgit (US$263) at Bekenu town, eastern Sabah state, The Star daily reported.
The officer was among the group and called for back up, keeping the suspects talking until other officers arrived by pretending to be interested in the gun.
Arms possession is tightly controlled in Malaysia, and offenders found possessing firearms without a license face up to 14 years in prison and whipping. -- AP
