Samarinda (ANTARA) — Bubur peca' and amparan tatak are two distinctive iftar dishes of Samarinda, East Kalimantan, which have now been accorded national Intangible Cultural Heritage status thanks to culinary preservation efforts by the East Kalimantan Provincial Government.

"The distinction of these two culturally rich iftar treats reaches its peak during the holy month of Ramadan. Bubur peca' is served exclusively for breaking the fast at the oldest mosque, Shirathal Mustaqiem, whilst amparan tatak is the most sought-after iftar snack among Samarinda residents," said Sih Sudiyono, Head of the Culture Division at the East Kalimantan Provincial Education and Culture Office, in Samarinda on Thursday.

On the very first day of fasting, the Jalan Biawan area in Samarinda was immediately transformed into a bustling hub, thronging with residents hunting for traditional snacks for their iftar menu.

Haji Ichal, a local trader, explained that amparan tatak always sells out in short order as it remains a firm favourite among residents.

"Amparan tatak sells out every single day. Other popular cakes include sari pengantin and lapis India," said Ichal, who has been selling kue talam for over twenty years.

Similar blessings have been experienced by Awaliyah, a trader who has maintained the authentic flavour of her cakes for sixteen years.

Her dedication to producing forty trays of kue talam, including amparan tatak, every day is a testament to preserving the rich heritage of authentic traditional recipes of the archipelago.
