Two hundred Indians leave Batam
Indians apologize over Batam riot through banners
The Jakarta Post, Batam
Two banners stating an Indians’ apology over last week’s clash at shipbuilding company PT Drydock World Graha dockyard in Tanjung Uncang, Batam, Riau Island, were placed Sunday along a road leading to the dockyard.
Kompas.com reported that the banners stated, “We, Indians, apologize for an incident that happened at a dockyard in Tanjung Uncang.”
On Sunday afternoon, the Dubai-based shipbuilding company appeared deserted without any activity. Several policemen were seen guarding the dockyard.
The riot was allegedly triggered by a racial statement made by Indian workers against local workers.
