JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Two residential houses in Pondok Bambu, Duren Sawit, East Jakarta, burned on Tuesday (19 May 2026) early morning. Head of Operations Section of Gulkarmat East Jakarta, Abdul Wahid, suspects the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit in one of the houses. ‘Two residences were burned, the cause suspected to be an electrical short circuit,’ Wahid said when contacted via WhatsApp on Tuesday. ‘Residents saw the flames had grown, then contacted the fire department; the initial firefighting began at 02:54 WIB.’ The fire was contained at 03:13 WIB and firefighting operations were declared complete at 04:08 WIB. Wahid confirmed there were no fatalities or injuries in the incident. ‘The area of the blaze was 400 square metres, affecting two households with nine people,’ he explained. A total of 13 fire engines and 65 personnel were deployed to extinguish the flames.
