Two residents’ houses in Karang Gedeng Hamlet, Sukadana Village, Bayan Subdistrict, North Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), have burned down. The fire is suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit on a standard power pole. The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Police Chief of Bayan, Iptu I Wayan Ciptanaya, stated that the fire occurred on Friday (29/5/2026) afternoon. One of the affected houses was a stilt house.

‘Based on the initial crime scene analysis, the suspected cause of the fire stems from an electrical short circuit in the installation around the power pole located above the victim’s roof,’ Wayan said on Friday (29/5/2026).

The fire was discovered around 3:00 PM WITA. Witness Muhammad Rizki Aditya, who had just woken up, saw flames on the roof of Seripa Rahmah’s house.

‘Upon seeing the fire growing, the witness immediately left the house and called for help from nearby residents,’ Wayan explained.

The fire spread rapidly to Usman’s house nearby due to strong winds. Residents and the homeowners attempted to extinguish the flames using makeshift tools while waiting for the fire department to arrive.

Approximately 20 minutes later, Bayan Fire Department personnel arrived at the scene. ‘The fire was eventually extinguished around 4:00 PM WITA,’ Wayan said.

Seripa Rahmah’s stilt house was completely destroyed along with valuable items such as televisions, clothing, wardrobes, mattresses, cash, and important documents including identity cards (KTP), family cards (KK), birth certificates, Family Hope Program (PKH) cards, Indonesia Smart Card (KIP), and diplomas.

Meanwhile, Usman’s house suffered severe damage, leaving only concrete structures and roof remnants. Various electronic appliances and household items were also burned, including televisions, active speakers, wardrobes, washing machines, stoves, mattresses, and kitchen utensils.

‘There were no fatalities in the incident, but material losses are estimated at around Rp150 million,’ Wayan explained.
