Two residential buildings in Sukabumi Regency, West Java, were reported damaged following a 4.2-magnitude earthquake on Sunday (15 March). Both buildings were located in different areas, specifically in Sukalarang and Simpenan sub-districts.

In Sukalarang Sub-district, the damaged house was located in Margajaya Village, RT 25/04, Sukamaju Settlement. The house belonged to Bubun Bunyamin and was inhabited by two family heads comprising eight people. Damage included the collapse of the front upper wall section and cracks in other wall areas.

Meanwhile, in Simpenan Sub-district, the damage was located in Babakan Asem Village, RT 008/002, Loji Settlement. This house, owned by Henda Sanusi, suffered complete structural collapse.

Daeng Sutisna, Manager of the Sukabumi Regency Regional Disaster Management Centre Operations Room, stated that following the earthquake, damage to residential buildings had been reported. There were no injuries or fatalities.

“The reports we received indicate that currently there are two residential houses damaged by the earthquake. The locations are in Simpenan and Sukalarang sub-districts,” said Daeng on Sunday evening (15 March).

Daeng stated that monitoring of field developments would continue, involving Disaster Management Officers at the sub-district level (P2BK) in each respective area.

“Hopefully the impact will not spread further. We will continue to monitor conditions on the ground,” he concluded.
