Two Historical Sites in Tabanan Proposed as New Cultural Heritage

The Tabanan Regency Culture Office is currently accelerating the process of designating two sites as new cultural heritage. The objects in question are Puri Kaba-Kaba in Kaba-Kaba Village, Kediri District, and Pura Pucak Geni in Cau Belayu Village, Marga District.

The Head of Cultural Heritage and History at the Tabanan Culture Office, I Nyoman Hartanegara, revealed that both sites are currently in the data collection and in-depth study phase before being officially established as cultural heritage. The target is for the designation process to be completed by next September.

According to Hartanegara, Puri Kaba-Kaba possesses many historical relics, particularly the ‘kori’ gate, which is said to share architectural similarities with the Majapahit era. “Additionally, Dwarapala and Yamaraja statues were discovered, which strengthen the historical value of the site,” Hartanegara stated on Friday (31/07/2026).

Meanwhile, at Pura Pucak Geni, there are several historical relics in the form of stones that are still considered sacred by the local community. Lingga and yoni, as well as natural stones believed to possess high spiritual value, were also found at the temple.

“We are still deepening all the data. The data collection is being conducted meticulously as it must undergo a comprehensive study before being established,” he emphasised.

The Acting Head of the Culture Office, Ni Luh Nyoman Sri Suryati, added that this data collection process is part of the efforts to preserve cultural heritage in Tabanan Regency. In addition to these two objects, her office is currently inventorying several other objects to be proposed as cultural heritage in the next stage.

“Three cultural heritage objects have already been established this year. Others will follow,” said Sri Suryati.

The three temples already designated as regency cultural heritage are Pura Margatelu in West Selemadeg District, Pura Luhur Puseh Bedha in Tabanan District, and Pura Penataran Ulun Danu Beratan in Baturiti District.
